Hugh P. and Maria Doherty are a Father and Daughter duo from Inishowen, Co.Donegal. Their long-awaited C.D of religious songs has finally been released. The Buncrana based Father and Daughter team have put together a selection of some of their favourite hymns, recorded over the past couple of months at Percy Robinson’s Newmills Sound Studio, Ramelton. The result, entitled “A Living Prayer”, is an inspiring collection of popular hymns, both old and new, ranging from American Country Gospel to Schubert’s Ave Maria, and should appeal to a wide variety of tastes.
Hugh P., who has been involved in the music scene for a good number of years, teamed up with his daughter Maria just over 3 years ago; mainly after an appeal for music at mass in St. Mary’s Oratory, Buncrana, and they have provided the music there regularly every Sunday since, to much encouragement from the local congregation. Both are accomplished singers and musicians, and Maria has just graduated from the University of Ulster with an M.Mus. Masters Degree in Music.
They are joined on the C.D by several other well known musicians, including Percy Robinson on steel guitar and dobro, Tom Byrne on accordion and harmonicas, Joe Gibson on fiddle and Marc Forbes on double bass. All proceeds from the sale of the C.D will be donated to several deserving charities, including the Foyle Hospice, and Fr. Anthony Saji’s Ugandan Orphanage Building Fund.
Anyone wishing to buy the C.D will find it in local shops, or by contacting Hugh or Maria on email@example.com or 0862788498.
Hugh and Maria are also accomplished wedding musicians, and are available for weddings and events in the Donegal and Derry areas, as well as further afield.
